RS Senior Regional Conference
We were privileged to get an opportunity to visit the Lawrence School, Sanawar for the Round Square Senior Regional Conference -2007, themed at “Heritage- Inheritance of legacy”.
We, Supriya Shahara ,Bhavya Muchhal, Parv Agrawal, Nishant Makhijani and Gautami Mansharamani escorted by Mr. Natwar Singh, our estate manager left Indore on 22nd April for Sanawar. After an exhaustive trip we reached the school next afternoon where we were received by the school students.
Sanawar is located in the Solan District of Himachal Pradesh. It is a sprawling verdant and salubrious, 139 acres campus. The school is located on an isolated hilltop and provides a beautiful view of nature. After lunch, we had time to explore the new world and make new friends which came from 15 schools from the Gulf and South East Asia region. In the evening we had a campus walk, where we got familiar with school campus and its Historic buildings like the Post Office, the War Memorial and the School Chapel. At night we had the Head Master’s welcome dinner at the MCR, their library cum Museum.
The next day after enough rest we had the Opening Ceremony at the Barne Hall.
We then went for our Baraza group activities which included tree plantation, paper recycling and visit to the Leprosarium at Mandodhar. Each Baraza group even surveyed an historic school building and had to prepare an IT presentation on the same. In the evening, we had the street plays at the Peacestead, where each school had to perform a platy each on the theme. The Sanskar Valley School, Bhopal took a clean sweep for the first position while we came second.
The next day we visited Shimla for the heritage walk. We visited the various historic buildings and explore the beautiful hill station. In Sanawarian language we had a lot of khup there i.e. fun there. The weather in Shimla was chilly which asked us to stay there long. Back in Sanawar at night the boys went to the school graveyard, a rather unusual walk for school students
26th April, the last day of the conference, we had a debate on the theme where Nishant convinced all and bagged 2nd position while Gautami came 4th . We then went to Kasauli or Kas’ a place near by . If you go to Kas, do eat the Bunsam i.e. the Bun Samosa, the delicious treat of Kas.
The closing ceremony at the Barne Hall gave us a mixed feeling of joy for experience and sadness for the departure. We were sure these friends we made, would stay within our hearts forever. At night we jammed at the school with wonderful food of Hot Millions.
Motto of Sanawar “Never Give In” inspired us to prioritize our lives for the Heritage, we inherit today. The Sanawarian Hospitability impels us to visit them again. |
