Young Round Square Regional conference 2011 Make A Difference

The year 2011 began on an ambitious note where D.C. Played host to the Young Round Square Regional Conference. 'Make a difference' was the theme of the Young Round Square Regional Conference-2011 held at Daly College from 7th to 9th Jan'2011. The bright young future citizens of the world participated with a lot of enthusiasm and warmth beating the early January' 11 winter chill. We had participants from Armenia, Dubai, Thailand, Singapore, Bangladesh and almost all the member schools of India. The school campus was filled with the laughter and chatter of the young delegates. After an ice-breaking session and an informal inauguration on 6th evening the conference started off with a big bang with the formal inauguration on 7th morning. After a brief cultural program befitting the occasion, the flag ceremony, our Principal & Regional Director South Asia & Gulf Region Mr. Sumer Singh's address welcoming the delegates, the Keynote speaker Mrs.Priti Patel (a Manipuri dance exponent) took the stage. Mrs. Patel has been successfully using dance -therapy to help children afflicted with cerebral palsy. She enlightened and inspired us with her video presentation and talk.

To infuse a spirit of healthy interaction and enquiry, the Baraza session was full of intelligent discussions, which were influenced by the key note speaker's speech. An art, craft, pottery and choreography workshop threw together the little artists. The Riikas session helped energizing the spirits of all those present. The three speakers overwhelmed the audience in their own ways and left the environs illuminated. Dr Anumpama Negi, a breast cancer survivor was a true embodiment of fortitude. An organic farmer and recipient of the Padmashree - Shri Kutti Menon revealed his detestation towards artificial farming and its impact on the environment. Yet another fighter was Monica Punjabi Verma who grew up in the Deaf and Dumb community and made the struggle for the underprivileged easier. Entailing these immensely touching discussions, was the Green Club presentation by Daly College students. It clearly fetched accolades as the students talked about the numerous efforts ranging from water harvesting to solar energy harnessing , being made to make the campus a better place . Before sundown, the participants got to see a kaleidoscope of inspiring emotions in the form of dance, drama and music.

On the final day, the crack of dawn rekindled a nostalgic feel as the participants embraced the concluding moments. The conference was to conclude with children visiting the sustainability centers. The groups of students went to Barli, Kasturba Gram, Sirpur Bird sanctuary, Organic farm and the zoo. The visits were followed by lunch at the most popular eateries of Indore. Grippingly, the participants were exposed to experiences on environment friendly practices like making models of the solar cooker and wind mills. Calculation of carbon foot print and visit to the paper recycling plant and water recycling plant formed the agenda for the participants.

As the merriment of four days came to an end, the mission statement reflected the very existence of the event. Theme song and a brilliantly choreographed 1000 hands dance at the closing ceremony was filled with exuberance, highlighting the importance of humanity, compassion and benevolence. The testimonial also marked the significance of the smallest of deeds which contribute to the betterment of the world.
