The Daly college, host and winner of the 2010 IPSC cultural fest prepared it's team of 33 students for the cultural fest 2011 at Maharani Gayatri Devi School, Jaipur. After long hours of rigorous practice in the school, the team set out along with 7 teachers on the 25th of September at daybreak to catch the Ranthambore express which took us to the Pink city of India, Jaipur. The train journey was easy and cheerful but all the participants were adrenalized and a little nervous because all the hard work was about to be put to test. Our arrival in Jaipur was quickly followed by a short trip to the hotel we stayed at, Hotel Palms and then we proceeded to the city's most established and reputed school, The Maharani Gayatri Devi school. The school was very congenial and welcomed us with great zeal. We were escorted to their basket ball courts after our arrival to have a couple of icebreaking sessions with all the schools. Except a few, most schools out of the 15 had arrived and the session was rather successful in helping all the participants intermingle. This was followed by a dinner in the school and then we were taken back to our hotels to get some shut eye because we had the official opening ceremony and other events lined up for the next day.
The next morning, all students fresh in their formals sat in the bus and started out for the school to witness the opening ceremony. The ceremony started out by a traditional Rajasthani welcome of the chief guest, followed by a local dance form. The guest gave a few words of wisdom and after that the events for the day started. The first event was the classical Instrumental solo which was performed by Paritosh Gupta who left the judges captivated by performing sensationally on the violin. He bagged the 2nd position and gave us a strong head start. Simultaneously, our miming team, made up of Isha Sharma, Chetna Nanaware and Sami Ahmed were all set to win the audience's heart. The team performed extremely well and even though they din't manage to get a position in the top 3, they had the audience in splits. After a quick lunch we went back to the hotel to get prepared for the evening. Jugalbandi, Western vocal solo and Folk dance were the events for the evening. Our Jugalbandi team had Avani Goyal on the Sitar and Pursharth Singh on the Violin. Their synergy held the spectators spellbound and they were placed 3rd in the competition. Tanya Sojatiya performed a song by Beyonce with live music played by Augustus Henry and Paritosh Gupta in the Western vocal solo that stole the heart of every single person present in the audience. She was awarded the 2nd position in her event. The third simultaneous event was the folk dance which was highly awaited. Everyone gave a stupendous performance, including The Daly College team which was made up of Nandini Bansal, Shruti Palod, Ayushman Bundela, Sami Ahmed, Chirantana Jamnia, Praneet Sahani, Hitanshi Agarwal, Aditi Lahoti, Tanya Garg and Shipra Singh. All the schools had worked extremely hard for this event and had brought forth the best folk dances of their area, which is why at the time of the result all of us sat with our fingers crossed. We gave out a shout of joy when we were handed the 2nd position. The first position had been bagged by MGD school who had performed exceptionally and were the deserving winners. This was followed by the principal's dinner in the campus where we were served traditional Rajasthani food. The day ended with great joy and we were all set to get our hands on the remaining trophies.
On the 27th we were up and ready early to compete again. The day started with the competition of classical solo dance where from our school Shivani Karmarkar gave a performance that erased the doubts of getting any position other than 1st from our minds. Her expressions and liveliness gained her a standing ovation from all the students in the auditorium. Two of our students namely Yash Bhargava and Priya Kumar participated in 'spin a yarn' where students had to come up with a story and perform it in form of a recitation. The topic given to us was, 'deadly multiplying cockroaches' which was a little bizarre but we managed to get the first position and it was a unanimous decision. In the conference room, the classical vocal solo was concurrently being performed by Tanya Sojatiya who gave a phenomenal performance. She was held in high regard not only by the judges but by all the music lovers who heard her sing. She was undisputedly handed the first prize. After a long lunch break all of us geared up for the evening's performances which included two of the most awaited competitions. The first one was the Group patriotic song which had six participants, namely, Tanya Sojatya, Shourya Jain, Shivali Mehrotra, Shama Kelogg, Pursharth Singh, Abhishek Boobna, Dhawal Kothari and Swati Mandloi. The theme filled the air and The Daly College outperformed all the other schools and with ease brought back the 1st position with great pride. The other event was the Choreography which was one of the most important and well-practiced of all the events. Our group of dancers, namely, Nandini Bansal, Shruti Palod, Praneet Sahani, Aditi Lahoti, Khyati Kakwani, Aaisha Ansari, Shipra Singh, Ritija Singh, Avika Parekh and Poorva Agarwal were ready to set the stage on fire. As our school performed all the dalians clapped incessantly till the end and encouraged the dancers greatly. The nail biting decision came out after the end of all performances and The Daly College was given the 2nd position. The auditorium echoed the roar of the dalians as all of us yelled out victory. We then proceeded for the student dance which was again held in the campus and danced till we were drained of all energy and filled with ecstasy. We made amazing friends that day. The day ended with great satisfaction.
The last day of our IPSC had two events in the morning. The first one was Ad-mad where we were given the topic 'masala bournvita' and we had to sell this product by making a witty and comical advertisment. The team consisted of Janmejay Jadeja, Nikita Tuteja, Priya Kumar, Yash Bhargava and Swati Mandloi. The team was very creative and had the audience laughing and cheering. The Daly College shared the first position with Vidya Devi Jindal School and were highly appreciated. The other event was the Semi-classical vocal solo which was sung by Shourya Jain. She kept the audience mesmerized even after her performance and was asked to perform again because of her awe-inspiring singing. She brought another 2nd position for the school along with honor and new-born respect in the arena of music. All the events had finally ended and it was time for the closing ceremony in the evening. The MGD school had a little surprise for all the students where it invited one of the bands called Desert Storm who gave an amazing performance of Jugalbani with different instruments and left the whole auditorium in awe. The audience shouted encore as they finished their piece of art. The next was the announcing of results which was done by the MGD school principal and The Daly College had won the prizes and hearts of all judges and created quite an impression on everyone with their confidence and triumphs. The conference ended with many farewells and promises to meet again. The Cultural team of The Daly College returned to Indore on the 29th night and shared the exceptional experience with the whole school. The spirit and success of our school team at the Fest would not have been possible without the help and support of Mr. Ansari who was a mentor to us and was in our hearts the whole time. Our escorts did an amazing job of bearing with us throughout the trip and without all the music and dance teachers this would not have been possible in the first place. A sincere thank you to the whole team that supported us and helped up bring back 18 trophies and 42 certificates. GO D.C.!
