CASUAL DAY REPORT

On 29th August 2008 , the Round Square Committee organised a clean casual day at school as a fund raising event for the Prince Alexander Fund. It was strangely comfortable seeing students and peers in a variety of attires, supporting a wonderful cause. There was a knee-jerk response from students, as they not only enjoyed the idea but were waiting for such a day! Staff members also appreciated the idea of raising funds in a unique way for a unique cause. Each student and adult who volunteered accepted to pay a sum of Rupees 50/- , which overall worked out to be an amazing Rupees 50,000/-[Fifty thousand ] . We thank each and everyone who supported this event and made it quick and enjoyable success.

FETE

As the winter chill started to settle in, the Round Square Committee of our school organized one of the most awaited events of the school, the Fete. Students partying, teachers busy at various stalls, many old dalians enjoying their good old school and the younger children spellbound by the magic show are some glimpses that can surely spread a smile over your face. The students and teachers cooperated exceedingly well so as to make this event a grand success. The RS fete was inaugurated by Mr.Rameshwar P.Singh.

This fete was basically organized for the raising of funds by the round square committee for community service. Stalls ranging from chats, soft drinks, Chinese and what not were present in this grand event. On the entertainment side, there was the pillow fight, hit and win Mirinda, souvenirs, etc.

According to a survey conducted, the pillow fight and the magician Tapash proved to be the top two sensations of the fete this year. Well , the pillow fight , at first it may sound just a normal pillow fight but when you are dangling in mid air and holding on to a thin wooden pipe for your dear life and your opponent’s pillow comes with a whack on your face, that makes things a lot more interesting. And the magician Tapash made an impressive show of his magical skills, which was proven by the fact that there were always about a dozen people in front of you in the line for your ticket.

Last, but not the least, another most exciting feature of the fete was the lucky draw, where prizes worth rupees 20000 were distributed to the lucky winners. These fabulous prizes included garden grille coupons, fruit baskets, Timex watches and lots of other cool stuff. The bumper prize was the one that set the audiences’ pulses racing. It was a 3 nights 4 days trip to Goa. The anticipation was displayed on each and every face that was present there at the fete. This fantabulous trip was won by a junior school parent Mrs. Chhabra.

Imagine eating out, having fun, playing games, winning prizes, having a gala time and at the same time, raising money for a noble cause. That was the Round Square Fete. The fund raised by the RS which will be utilized for the various community surface projects that will be undertaken by the committee. Apart from being just an excellent source of entertainment for the entire school, the fete inculcated a sense of leadership, responsibility and team work amongst the students involved in the organizing of the fete. Standing proudly on its six pillars, Round Square was once again successful in conducting an event at such a scale and to this level of perfection.

ROCK CONCERT

A report on the thrilling, mesmerizing, heart throbbing, sensational ‘Rock Concert’. After a fortnight of examination goose bumps and nightmares came an evening filled with entertainment, joy and pleasure for the students.

On the 9th December the school in collaboration with DCBS had organized a ‘Rock Concert’. The popular Euphoria band set the audience’s toe tapping. The Scindia ground had been changed into Scindia disc that evening, illumined with psychedelic lights, Euphoria band that staged the show and the lead singer Dr. Palash Sen’s lyrics accompanied by thumping drum beats. The audience, including the school students, DCBS students, old Dalians to staff members and parents let themselves loose and danced to the vibrating of Euphoria. The people, who chose to sit and enjoy the show, could not be contained in their chairs and soon the enchanting music broke the barrier of the seating arrangement and brought everyone to the dance floor. As the white marble college building with its illuminated tower clock ticked away approaching midnight the spirits soared high and the momentum at the Scindia disc reached the crescendo. The energized and charged crowd danced intoxicated with pleasure and happiness to their tunes, ranging from Indian classical music, Hindi film songs to English songs by popular singers like Enrique, Angelina Jolie etc. the self composed songs by Dr. Palash Sen echoed in the atmosphere of Daly College.

This fund-raising and entertaining concert was a perfect blending of service to humanity and enjoyment. The RS-student committee managed to raise funds equivalent to 5 Lakhs. The august gathering enabled the school to contribute to a noble cause and had an evening of excitement and enjoy in the bargain.
